Plantain leaf is a first rate "First Aid" plant that is usually close-at-hand, wherever you may be. A few fresh leaves, crushed or chewed, can be used to quickly stop the bleeding of an open wound, stop the pain and inflammation or bites and stings, and relieve the itching from poison ivy. A cup of strong Plantain tea will quell the worst indigestion, and a small wad of chewed leaf placed next to the gum will quiet a painful toothache until it can be attended to. A simple ointment, made with an olive oil extract of fresh Plantain and a little beeswax is a very good general purpose remedy for many skin ailments, and is especially helpful with diaper rash. |
Calendula flower is one of the best herbs for treating local skin problems. It may be used safely wherever there is an inflammation on the skin, whether due to infection or physical damage. It may be used for any external bleeding or wounds, bruising, or strains. It will also be of benefit in slow-healing wounds and skin ulcers.
Therapeutic uses for calendula flowers include burns, inflammation, mucositis, and pharyngitis. The phytochemicals in calendula oppose fungi, bacteria, viruses, and inflammation. They also excite white blood cells in the immune system to fight microbial invaders with a little more vigor. For these reasons and others, calendula has been a good treatment for skin problems of all kinds, particularly cuts, scrapes, bruises, and minor wounds. |
Comfrey
is high in calcium and vitamin C. It has a strong history of being used as an external application by itself or in poultices for the mending of wounds and broken bones. It is a contact healer, relieving pain and immediately helping to grow new flesh and bone. The Latin name itself translates "knitting together." |
One of the main therapeutic substances in comfrey is allantoin, an anti-inflammatory that perks up the immune system, speeds wound healing, and encourages new skin and cell growth. It's a time-honored treatment for healing sores, bruises, and even broken bones. The tannins in comfrey are astringent, and the rosmarinic acid might contribute some anti-inflammatory assistance. Some extracts have shown the potential to decrease tumor growth and extend the lives of lab mice with cancer.

Rose Petals
Red Rose Petals are not just decorative or a symbol of love.
Red Rose Petals are used for tonics and gargles because of their astringent properties to cure sore throats, mouth sores, and stomach disorders. The oil from the red rose petals is used to relieve headaches, insomnia and nervous tension. The petals contain quercitrin, volatile oils, and coloring agents. Red rose petal tea is mild and quite lovely. |

Wikipedia states that : "The common name [ St John's Wort] comes from its traditional flowering and harvesting on St John's day, 24 June".

ST. John's Wort
Ok, this has got to be the grossest sounding herb ever! But it has been used as a healing herb for centuries. Nicholas Culpeper (Author of Culpeper's Complete Herbal, p1682) wrote that, "It is a singular wound herb. Boiled in wine and drank it heals inward hurts and bruises. Made into an ointment, it opens obstructions, dissolves swellings, and closes up the lips of wounds."

Boswellia Serrata
This Herb is a relative of frankincense, and is a large branching tree native to India. Used an an herbal medicine of India for centuries, it has been proven to help with arthritis pain.
It continues to be used for this purpose to the present day. Boswellia contains acids that fight inflammation and promote circulation to the joints. Boswellia has also been widely marketed as an herbal substitute for anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen, making it a great addition to my Joint Relief Salve. |
Whats the first thing you think of when you hear "cayenne". I think SPICY HOT! and that is true, we use cayenne as a spice/flavoring in many of our foods. But that is not all it is good for.
It is one of the most powerful of all herbs for stimulating the body’s energies for healing. |
Cayenne
Here is an excerpt taken from the How To Herb Book, that can be found at BulkHerbStore:
Cayenne or capsicum, one of the most important herbs, is a wonderful healer. References to it have even been found on plaques in the Egyptian tombs. It is an herb many herbalists would choose if they could only have one herb. It is found in many combinations with other herbs because it acts as a catalyst.

Arnica Flower
The name Arnica may be derived from the Greek arna, "lamb," in reference to the soft, hairy leaves.
I use this herb in my lotions and lip balms to add elasticity to your skin, acting as an anti-aging component.
The silicon content of the horsetail is the highest in the entire plant empire, and no other herb comes even near to the silica levels found in the plant. Silica is an important trace element for the body; it helps in binding protein molecules together in tissues, such as the blood vessels and other connective tissues in the human body. Collagen, an important constituent of the tissues, is largely made from silicon. The role of the collagen in the body is to act as the "body glue", enabling the skin and muscular tissues to stick together as an integrated whole. ~Herbs2000.com |
